This sterling silver trailer makes my heart go pitter patter!
Made by the amazing Kristiana Spalding, who uses her vintage Airstream trailer as a design studio, the Lucky Little Trailer in Love necklace is the latest in her shiny line of jewelry that's perfect for anyone with a soft spot for trailers and uber cool design.
Nothing could be more perfect for Valentine's Day! To order click here. Be sure to take a trip over to Kristiana's Silver Trailer News blog , too!
This is one of twenty great vintage Airstream photos included in a postcard set I bought on Amazon.com a while back. They arrived in a lovely silver box that is nifty enough by itself. And the postcards are so fun I haven't been able to part with one yet. They may find a home as a permanent installation on my 'inspiration board', especially in light of the fact that when I went to Amazon to post the link for you, they are listed as no longer available. Maybe we need to lobby Chronicle Books to issue another printing!
The law of attraction is once again pulling Airstreams my way, from unlikely places and when I'm least expecting it!
I'd been meaning to read Peace Like a River by Leif Enger for years. Recently, I picked up a copy at a used book store and dove in. It is beautifully written, with a compelling plot, (click here for a review), but the bonus feature is an Airstream is part of the story! Our beloved silver pods occasionally shine in movies but I don't know of any other novel that puts an Airstream in the spotlight. (If you know of any, please leave a comment and fill me in!)
Peace Like a Riverhas been made into a feature film, starring Billy Bob Thornton, and is set for release sometime in 2009.
Here's one of the best Creative Use of a Vintage Airstream ideas in ages: Use the tiny silver capsules as puppet theatres and projection pods in a traveling art circus! The project is powered by a group of writers, artists and musicians intent on renovating vintage airstream trailers into mobile stages, puppet theatres, and projection screens for their animations and videos. (They will even use the trailers for housing. How novel!)
The Tiny Circus plans to travel with their wee trailers all across the country, providing free art and entertainment. They hope to tour small towns all across the country, recreating the summertime spectacle of a traveling circus as an artful Airstream caravan.
The artists involved in the project are working on a clown's shoestring budget and are funding the project themselves. They welcome donations from any circus and/or Airstream-loving enthusiast and can be contacted at www.tinycircus.org.
If ever there was a circus I could run away with, this is it.

Normally, I appreciate outsider art and have long been a fan of graffiti. But I'm not sure how I feel about this photograph, found on Flickr. How do you feel about it?
Just as I was wondering if it was too terribly greedy to wish Brad Cornelius had done an Airstreamized O'Keefe, I found Joan Landis! Click on her name to enjoy her artwork and website.
"When Georgia O'Keeffe started to paint the Ranchos Church, a car and trailer pulled up to ruin her view. She came back the next day to paint her now famous painting without the intrusion." -Joan Landis
